Quito Will Host The International Conference for Latin American and Caribbean Women

first_imgBy Dialogo May 22, 2009 On May 29th to May 31st, the Ecuadorian capital will be the host city for the International Conference of Latin American and Caribbean Women, who will be holding a debate concerning the regional situation under the slogan: “United for the integration of our America”. The Ecuadorian committee that is preparing the meeting announced today that the regional meeting, sponsored by the Women’s International Democratic Federation, “constitutes an essential forum for evaluation, debate, projection and reflection regarding the performance of the continent’s feminist organizations”. In an official announcement, the organization indicated that more than 130 delegates will participate in the conference, which will be analyzing topics such as the economy needed by Latin American and Caribbean women, the role of the State from a female perspective, integration and international solidarity. Additionally, they will be analyzing how to build “Feminist Socialism in the XXI century”, the resistance and struggle of women in different situations that hinder peace or the role of women and the media. The organizers are emphasizing the development of an “International Solidarity Forum” and they indicate that, among their activities, they plan to place a floral offering at the Monument of Independence, at the historical center in Quito, “to pay tribute to their Bicentenary celebration”.
