Peruvian Police Seize 356 Kilos of Cocaine in Arequipa

first_img Police officers from the Specialized Anti-Drug Division reported that 356 kilos of cocaine base paste were seized in the area of the district of Chala, in the province of Caraveli, Arequipa on 1 August. The drugs were seized after the officers stopped a truck driven by Máximo Cisneros, who was accompanied by Michael Bustamante D., ‘Chanel’. In the vehicle’s interior, specifically in the fuel tank, 339 brick-shaped packages were carefully packed, containing a white, powdery substance, which upon being subjected to a field test with the reagent cobalt thiocyanate, tested positive for cocaine alkaloid. The suspects and the drugs have been turned over to the police division with jurisdiction for investigation, with the participation of the public prosecutor with jurisdiction. Likewise, members of the Ayacucho Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) carried out an operation with helicopter transport, on board two UH-1H-II helicopters, locating 12 laboratories for manufacturing cocaine base paste in the locality of San Agustín, in the district of Santa Rosa. At those laboratories, which had their respective soaking and decanting pools, the following chemical raw materials were also found: 470 gallons of kerosene, 375 kg of calcium hydroxide, 244 kg of muriatic acid, 103 kg of sulfuric acid, and 129 kg of ammonia. At the same time, 26,400 kg of coca were found. The chemicals and the coca were incinerated on site, as required by law, preserving the ecology and environment of the area at all times.
