Far North Queensland buyers don’t stray too far from home

PICTURE: BRENDAN RADKEROBERT Ryan and Alex Reuter love their corner of Cairns. And, even though they are selling their home of four years at Whipbird Dr in Smithfield, the pair aren’t casting the net too wide from the neighbourhood in the search for a new property.According to the Pulse of Australia’s On the Move Survey released last year, 60 per cent of buyers will only move between 0-9km from their current home. And that’s exactly what this couple intend on doing, not least of all because the delicious McAlister’s Brewery is just a 2km walk away. Mr Ryan, Ms Reuter and their dog Bronco want to downsize and remain in walking distance to everything Smithfield has to offer. The pair have been living in the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home they built for more than three years. “We loved how close it was to the rainforest and in particular, we back onto the overflow from Kuranda Range so we have no neighbours, get all the animals like kookaburras coming in to the yard,” Mr Ryan said.“We absolutely would love to stay in Canopy’s Edge, but we think we’ll be looking more at Smithfield Village and hope to build a house for a corporate couple. From the pool and the spa there is a view of the Kuranda Range.”Agent Andrew Thornton from Elite Real Estate said Canopy’s Edge, where the couple’s home is, was one of the Northern Beaches most desirable locations.“It is close to Smithfield shopping centre, Macalister’s Brewery and just 15 minutes from the beach and Cairns City centre,” he said.“Robert and Alex’s place is an exciting home with rare side and rear access, stunning pool and a ducted outdoor BBQ zone perfect for entertaining. “With no rear neighbours it provides a beautiful private setting to sit back and enjoy life with the mountain ranges behind adding to an already stunning location.“The master bedroom has a walk-in robe, private ensuite including dual hand basins with stone bench tops plus his and hers walk-in rainfall shower.”last_img
