Nerud takes gold at USA Outdoors

Nerud’s time of 10:15.67 was fast enough to hold off second place runner Bethany Neeley (10:19.83) of Eastern High School in Greentown, Ind., to defend her title. She also received U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-America honors.Her success in the steeplechase is nothing new.In July 2012, Nerud broke the American junior and national high school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:00.72 at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships as a member of Team USA.Nerud’s title caps a successful freshman year campaign, where she won a bronze medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Big East Championship (10:16.29) before finishing 17th in the semifinals at the NCAA Championship (10:18.16).AdvertisementThis is placeholder textHer time of 10:03.18 at the NCAA East Preliminaries set the Syracuse school record.
