SANTA CLARITA – Richard Budman, publisher and part owner of The Signal newspaper in the Santa Clarita Valley, resigned today, effectively immediately. Budman, named publisher in September 2004, told the newspaper staff at mid-day, sources in the newsroom said. A Valencia resident, Budman bought an interest in The Signal from the Georgia-based Morris Newspaper Group, which had purchased the newspaper in 1978 from the late Scott Newhall. Previously Budman had worked for the Los Angeles Daily News. Budman, who owns a number of small local publications including trade magazines, was unavailable for comment. Charles Morris Jr., who heads the chain, declined to comment. last_img
