Softball Signs Four High School Student-Athletes For 2018 Season

first_imgThe final member of the 2018 class is Timmons, who is from Davenport, Iowa. She is a three-year letterwinner for Davenport Assumption High School. A pitcher, Timmons helped the Knights earn a runner-up finish at the 2016 Class 3A State tournament. In the circle as a junior, she finished with a 21-3 overall record and a 0.74 earned run average and earned first team all-state accolades. “They each have outstanding characteristics, a great passion for the game and excel in the classroom,” Calvert said. “Time will tell on the impact they will have on the softball field, but they all come from programs, whether high school or club, that have achieved tremendous success during their time. A shortstop, she has been named first team all-state each of previous two seasons and first team All-Raccoon River three times. Johnson competes in three other sports, basketball, track and field and volleyball, for the Huskies. Winterset finished as runner-ups at the 2015 Class 4A State tournament. Anderson is a local product from nearby Boone High School. A catcher, she has been selected to the second team All-Raccoon River Conference as a sophomore and junior. Anderson has helped the Toreadors compile an 86-37-1 record in three seasons, capped by a fourth-place finish at the 2016 Iowa Class 4A State tournament.   Ryan is the sister of former Drake softball four-year letterwinner, Sarah Ryan (2012-15), and hails from Mount Vernon, Iowa. Ryan, a utility player in softball, is another talented multi-sport athlete who competes in basketball, track and field and volleyball for Mount Vernon High School. She has helped each Mount Vernon team qualify at least once for the state tournament in basketball, softball, and volleyball and is an eight-time medalist at the state track meet. “We feel the most important aspect in the recruiting process is finding quality student-athletes that represent Drake softball both on and off the field,” Calvert said. “We have found that in this class, that will have big shoes to fill in replacing a strong senior class.” DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University softball team has signed four high school standouts, Laura Anderson (Boone, Iowa), Macy Johnson (Winterset, Iowa), Libby Ryan (Mount Vernon, Iowa) and Nicole Timmons (Davenport, Iowa) to National Letters of Intent for the 2018 season, head coach Rich Calvert announced.last_img
