‘CAN’T PAY WON’T PAY’ TO BIN WATER BILLS AT MARCH NEXT MONTH

first_imgCan’t Pay Won’t Pay will ask the public to bin their bills at a major protest against water charges in Letterkenny next month.Spokesperson Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig said that with Irish Water bills due fromApril 1st, they want to give people the opportunity to come together in a public show of strength to say that we will not be paying their charges.“We will be asking people to bring their bills and take part in a mass binning to show that they do not accept being asked to pay a second time for water.” “We have heard very little in recent weeks about the numbers who have registered with Irish Water. There is no doubt that if the numbers looked good for Irish Water, then we would have heard all about it from government sources. The reality is that a massive boycott is already underway. We are planning this demonstration to build the boycott and to give people the confidence to defy Irish Water.“If huge numbers of people do not pay the charges, it will not be possible to pursue them all. It should also be remembered that the only sanction for non-payment applies a full 12 months after you do not pay. It is open to question whether the government will have the political will to pursue so many non payers in the run-up to a general election. If they do, they will meet strong and determined resistance.”The protest will take place on April 25th and by then many people should be in possession of their Irish Water bills.“We are calling on all those who intend not to pay the charges to make their way to Letterkenny and send the message to Irish Water and the government that no matter what they do, we will not pay.” ‘CAN’T PAY WON’T PAY’ TO BIN WATER BILLS AT MARCH NEXT MONTH was last modified: March 11th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
